| Info | ='Blueberry Muffins'. This tasty breakfast pastry of a hosta is the result of an unusual cross from usually boring hybridizer Bill Meyer. Though he seems to prefer dull scientific mumbo-jumbo to the beauty of hostas, he sometimes gets a really pretty one seemingly by accident. 'Blueberry Muffin' came about as a result of his experiments with the old Eric Smith idea of combining sieboldiana with fall bloomers. The exact cross was 'Frances Williams' x 'Fall Bouquet'. While there are some similarities to the famous Tardianas, this plant is quite a bit different from them, but we think it's every bit as nice. This was the best seedling from that cross, just as 'Halcyon' was the best of the Tardianas. This semi-upright little blue number features excellent long-lasting blue color, red-speckled petioles, and interesting lunar-landscape leaf surfaces. It grows steadily but not extremely fast, and shows good heat and sun tolerance. Flowers are small and numerous with plenty of seed set in little rounded pods. The leaves are 5x7 inches and the plant is 24 inches tall and may reach 30 inches wide. |
