InfoHosta 'Field Rat' is a surprise sport out of Hosta 'Flamenco Mouse' that has small spear shaped leaves that are solid blue-green and not wavy. When we first saw this tissue culture sport we thought they might be a reversion back to Hosta 'Blue Mouse Ears' but instead the leaves are more pointed and the flowers are taller yet still the same darker purple as Hosta 'Flamenco Mouse'. The flowers also are more trumpet shaped than bell shaped and the scapes often branch so that it really has a lot of flower power to it.
The name was chosen because we feel that this plant will likely be larger than Hosta 'Blue Mouse Ears' and might be so ugly that nobody would ever want it in their garden.
