| Info | This is a white centered form of 'Blue Angel', similar to and possibly identical to the registered 'Guardian Angel'. New leaves emerge with a wide white center variegation, which causes a graceful twist to the leaf, much like that of 'Whirlwind'. As the leaf expands, the blue edge widens and the leaf takes on the typical 'Blue Angel' shape. As the growing season progresses, the plant will have both young twisted and older flattened leaves, along with the various stages in between. The center variegation is viridescent, turning green as the leaves age, but still remaining visible. The variegation is not visible on leaves that emerge in mid summer. I assume that the white variegation would last longer where the summers do not get as hot as here in Maryland. A similar plant was registered as 'Guardian Angel' by the late Rick Thompson, and tissue culture plants are currently being sold. In the past the registrar required that such similar plants found by different growers would both be known by the same name (the first to be registered). We understand that the current policy is that the plants should be known by the same name only if they can be shown to be identical in all respects. Since I cannot assume that it is identical to 'Guardian Angel', I have named it 'Angel Eyes'. In time, it may be possible to compare mature plants to see if they are the same or have any significant differences. AKA H.'Guardian Angel'. Gorgeous white-centered sport of H.'Blue Angel'.
