| Info | Discovered at Munton's Microplants of Stowmarket, Suffolk, in a batch of tissue cultured H. sieboldiana 'Elegans' by two technicians, Barbara and Ann. It has been under trial at Park Green Nurseries over the past two seasons and has been found to grow well in the garden and in containers. The leaves are a lovely greyish-blue green with broad cream borders, and the flowers are just off-white. Very nice H. sieboldiana 'Elegans' sport from Great Britain: beautiful wide white border surrounds a nicely rounded and corrugated blue leaf with great substance. This plant is different from H. 'Northern Exposure' due to the leaf shape, also shows no drawstring effect. White flowers top the clump midseason. creating a dramatic accent. This comes from Muton's Microplants in the UK where it was discovered by two lab technicians, Barbara and Ann. Introduced to commerce by England's Park Green Nursery, Hosta 'Barbara Ann' makes a stunning clump of corrugated blue-grey leaves, surrounded by a very wide, pure white border with a tetraploid look. The sturdy, 3-4' wide clumps are topped in late spring with 2' tall spikes of pure white flowers. It appears to be quite distinct from Hosta 'Northern Halo' and its offspring. |
