Info | 'Bob Axmear' is destined to become one of the most important plants of the new millennium. It is the plant that will supercede the famous 'Dorothy Benedict' as one of the absolute top hybridizing plants of all time. 'Bob Axmear' is a sport of 'Elegans' and it is the good 'Elegans' that is out there - the one from 'Frances Williams' also called 'Gray Cole' in some circles. This is the big strong-growing 'Elegans' and not the weaker one that is usually culls from 'Great Expectations'. 'Bob Axmear' sets seed very well, as would be expected, with a good percentage of streaked ones, but the big news is that they grow as fast as any sieboldiana seedlings and much faster than "DB" seedlings. It is everything we all wanted 'Dorothy Benedict' to be and more. That's why it was named for one of the most prominent people in today's hosta universe - Bob Axmear, founder of the fantastic HostaLibrary and many other things as well. We could think of nobody better to have their name on this important new introduction than our Bob. Bob was the 2010 recipient of the Alex J. Summers Distinguished Merit Award. |
