Info | Gosan Golden Dwarf (to be registered in 2004) was found in my H. longipes bed (see Fig 2-2, my book - this is the original plant) in the mid-1980s. On a whim I dabbed pollen from the yellow Ogon Iwa on some of the smaller examples of H. longipes including H. longipes sparsa. The result was Gosan Golden Dwarf which came up as a seedling in that bed (see my comment under H. longipes Golden Dwarf). There were several other seedling but this one had nice purple petioles so I grew it on. I have also seen the yellow H. longipes sparsa in a Japanese nursery but it did not have those pretty, dark petioles. I don't know where it came from but was found in the wild according to the proprietor. I do not have an example of this plant (he would not sell it). There is a picture of the seedling still very small in the Hostalibrary (it says registered in 1989 but that is not so). The leaves have since elongated more in the mature plant [GS]. |
