Info | Yes, that is the name. Honest. Glen Williams chose to name this plant 'Moose Bait', probably because it reminds him of a certain incident regarding a certain moose of his acquaintance. It is a seedling of Roy Herold's 'Chopsticks' which is a cross of longipes hypoglauca and pycnophylla, and so has very intersting parentage. It appears from the unfortunately somewhat blurry picture to be lutescent, as the older leaves show the brightest color. It's a small plant with a fairly flat habit and a unique look overall. This plant is not offered under the same conditions as 'Soup Spoon', but Glen requests that the winning bidder not propagate it. This is the very first offering of this plant, but Glen may distribute it further in the future. This will be the only piece available this year. So, we had to ask Glen about the name. He said, "Well, this plant has been a great personal favorite of mine for some time. I don't name plants often, so that alone tells you the high regard I have for this one. Well, in my first encounter with a certain moose, I was greatly surprised but the big thing just wandered off not caring where he stepped. Sure enough, luck would have it that the only hosta he managed to put his big clumsy hoof on was this one. I was considering 'Moose Target', but decided it had connotations that were, well, not the best." |
