Info If you like miniature hostas, you're going to love Hosta 'Vanilla Bean'. In our decades long work to develop vigorous miniature hostas, even we were surprised by the performance of this 2007 hybrid. The first in a series of complex crosses to develop Hosta 'Vanilla Bean' began in 1990 and include Hosta parents, 'Swoosh', 'Green Fountain', kikutii, longipes 'Tardiflora', venusta 'Minima', 'Cheatin' Heart', 'Blue Mammoth', and 'Gemstone'...and it looks so easy. Hosta 'Vanilla Bean' forms a tiny 4" tall x 8" wide clump with wavy leaves whose center pattern emerges yellow and ages to vanilla, outlined with a lovely two-tone green border. Hosta 'Vanilla Bean' is perfect for a trough garden or a special viewing spot in the woodland. The clumps are topped with short stalks of dark purple flowers, starting for us in mid-June.
